Lyreco joins GivingTuesday, the ultimate celebration of generosity
This is the sixth year in a row that the first Tuesday after Black Friday will be filled with good deeds, giving, and kindness. GivingTuesday is a global charitable initiative drawing together diverse groups of people – volunteer and non-profit organisations, SMEs, corporations, families and individuals. The goal is giving – time, advice, materials, funding...
Lyreco is once again contributing to the GivingTuesday global celebration, which this year falls on 29 November. Read more about what activities we have planned for the day.
What is GivingTuesday?
GivingTuesday is a celebration of generosity, giving and volunteering, during which people around the world do good deeds and spread kindness. GivingTuesday takes place at the same time every year – the first Tuesday after the American Thanksgiving holiday and the now globally recognised Black Friday. This initiative is essentially a riposte to Black Friday, which is an unofficial celebration of materialism and shopping sprees.
#GivingTuesday brings together different groups of people – non-profits, businesses, families and individuals – in a unique way that inspires them to do good deeds.
How will Lyreco support the GivingTuesday project?
In partnership with Révia - Lesser Carpathian Community Foundation, this year we will once again be involved in providing gifts to children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Lyreco employees, along with hundreds of other anonymous donors, will buy a book dreamed up by one of the children. They can write a heartfelt dedication in the book. A “book gnome” then delivers the coveted book to the child.
Working with the Tenenet association, we will help families in need to make their wishes come true as part of the “Good in People” campaign. Lyreco staff can contribute to the purchase of groceries, household goods, and small gifts and items intended to make someone happy.
When a child goes to school, a nation grows
Lyreco For Education is a Lyreco-run scheme in which employees participate in fundraising activities aimed at supporting children and improving their access to education. The goal is to boost enrolment and reduce drop-out rates.
This year, Lyreco staff will be able to show their support for children in Cambodia by purchasing a raffle ticket.
A natural willingness to help others is built into our DNA. Not only through our global Lyreco for Education Foundation, which has been supporting the education of children in developing countries since 2008, but also through various local initiatives, many of which are carried out directly by our employees. And we are more than happy to support them in this.
