Responsibility and Sustainability

At Lyreco, we are aware that taking action to contribute to the protection of our planet and people requires the commitment of everyone and we must act to drive progress in sustainability with our entire supply chain. Each year, we improve our long-term involvement in sustainability aiming at strengthening our commitment toward more responsible practices and ensuring we work with partners who, at least, share our concerns and ambitions.

Delivering excellence is not only about top-quality products and services, it is about ensuring that every step Lyreco takes to meet its sustainability ambitions and satisfy its customers is achieved in the most sustainable way:

  • Providing products that contribute to protecting the planet and its people
  • Ensuring ethics and compliance requirements are met wherever our suppliers, manufacturers, and partners operate
  • Minimise packaging
  • Developing sustainable processes, from ordering and delivery to product end-of-life
  • Providing employee excellence wherever Lyreco operates
  • Supporting education around the world

Our Sustainability strategy is built upon three pillars: Planet, People and Progress. It expresses our desire to reduce the impact of our activity on the planet, to have a positive impact on people, and drive progress within our entire value chain.

Worldwide certifications

Trust and clarity are essential to meeting our stakeholders’ environmental and social ambitions.

We use the internationally recognised standards ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 in all of our 17 subsidiaries across 25 countries as part of our Integrated Management System.
Since 2012, we have been measuring the quality of our sustainability management system with Ecovadis. In 2022, Lyreco was awarded an Ecovadis Gold Medal with a score of 73/100, ranking us among the top 2% of companies in our industry.

Sustainable and Ethical sourcing

Sustainability and ethics in the supply chain are key principles for Lyreco; they form the basis of our Sustainability strategy.
We require that all suppliers and Lyreco product manufacturers meet environmental standards and labour and human rights, wherever they operate.

To ensure that these standards are constantly met, the Lyreco Compliance team audits yearly all its suppliers manufacturing Lyreco-branded products located in risk countries.
These assessments and audits use the following frameworks:
•    SMETA (SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit) four pillars: Labour, Health & Safety, Environment, and Business Ethics
•    BSCI, ISO 14001:2015, Vigilance plan, and Purchasing policy

Lyreco Sustainable Selection

Sustainable trends and requirements have been evolving rapidly in recent years, from all aspects of the product itself to its packaging and end-of-life impact.

In 2023, we are launching the first version of “Sustainable Selection by Lyreco”, our new progressive assessment methodology for suppliers and products. Our pioneering goal is to better serve our customers in selecting products that contribute to the protection of the planet and its people.
