The comfort of the workstation supports the performance of homeworkers

The second wave of the Covid-19 crisis is again gradually forcing the generalisation of telework. A recent survey conducted by Lyreco among European decision-makers and employees in large and SMB companies shows that to ensure business continuity in this lasting sanitary situation, companies have already widely adopted home working for their staff.

If working from home includes advantages, it has also brought new needs to address for any employer willing to support the well-being and efficiency of their team.

The Lyreco survey on home office has been conducted from 16th to 2nd October in 8 countries in Europe - France, Germany, Poland, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg - among 9,700 decision-makers and employees.

HOME WORKING ERGONOMICS

A LACK OF COMFORT CAN REDUCE EFFICIENCY

The home office offers obvious advantages, such as flexible hours or less time lost in commuting. It also brings with it issues primarily related to health and wellness. A home-based workstation does not offer the same level of comfort, ergonomics and fluidity that the employee finds in the office. Sitting all day long in an ordinary chair, concentrating on a laptop screen at the wrong height, examining documents on a screen without printing them... all these seemingly minor burdens can lead to health problems such as back pain, mental fatigue, reducing concentration and performance.

WHAT CAN IMPROVE THE COMFORT OF HOME WORKERS

We have asked to around 7,000 workers which equipment would improve their level of comfort. The most frequent answers are office furniture (38% of the answers) such as chairs, desks and lights, printers (24%) and ergonomic items (23,4%) such as foot and back rest, ergonomic mouse and computer stand.
