Supplier audits & enhancement actions

Lyreco has developed a wide range of private label products. We can now offer our clients over 1,500 items.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of workplace products and solutions, Lyreco has a special responsibility to ensure that their suppliers are committed to social, ethical, environmental and legal business conduct.

Our Lyreco product manufacturers yearly receive a visit from the group QSS team for an on-site audit in order to make sure our commitments and sustainability benchmarks are continuously met, hereby specifically focusing on risk countries. For instance in September 2019, Lyreco unfortunately had to end the collaboration with a Group supplier as a consequence of the results of an audit that was not announced.

Lyreco auditing framework
Our internal and external benchmarks and strategy

In 2013, SEDEX and BSCI were chosen by Lyreco as international standards for the social accountability auditing of factories manufacturing Lyreco products.

SEDEX SMALL

SAFETY

Carefully sourcing Paper and PPE

In an international context of alarming messages about deforestation and about human and labour rights in developing countries, Lyreco has set up a due diligence process aimed at avoiding to source:

  • Paper that may have come from a country accused of deforestation.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (not of the Lyreco brand and not directly imported by Lyreco) originating from at-risk countries when it comes to their social responsibility (e.g. Bangladesh, Malaysia or Sri Lanka)

Supplier Performance Improvement Program (SPIP)

Both Lyreco and its suppliers are committed to constantly improving. To make this constant shared enhancement possible, the Lyreco group Marketing team developed the following 2 complementary methodologies.

  1. Supplier Performance Improvement Program (SPIP), of which the basis of evaluation is built on 4 performance indicators: Category Management, Competitiveness, Sustainability and Logistics
  2. Lyreco supplier research targeted at identifying room for improving in Lyreco's supplier management process.

Assessment of supplier sustainability performance

In 2019, sustainability, previously accounting for 20% of the performance assessment, was increased to 25%, similar to the other 3 criteria.

The CSR Assessment consists of 5 elements:

  1. The products’ ecological features
  2. The suppliers’ Risk management and CSR organization
  3. The Ecological Management System
  4. The System for managing Safety & Heath
  5. Business Ethics, Logistics Network and Social Accountability

Together with the results of the assessment, each supplier is given an individualized roadmap, with possible progress tracks. This program exists since 2015.
